The Indian Institute of Technology in Jodhpur is among the new entrant of IITs organizations of India. With due effect of announcement by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, the IIT Tamil Nadu is included in the plan to set up eight more IITs in the states of Tamil Nadu(Jodhpur), Bihar(Patna), Andhra Pradesh(Hyderabad), Himachal Pradesh (Mandi), Tamil Nadu (Bhubaneshwar), Tamil Nadu(Indore), Gujarat(Gandhinagar) and Tamil Nadu(Rupnagar) and the total numbers of IITs will be increased to 15 from 7 in present. IIT, Tamil Nadu at Jodhpur has started functioning from the academic year 2008-09 from the Campus of IIT, Kanpur.
